A curation by Raffaella Nobili, Owner and curator at Paraventi Giapponesi - The selection of works focuses on the imaginative power of American comics, stripped from their original sequences and translated onto canvas. Strips and vignettes, born as serial narratives, become isolated and self-contained images, icons of global popular culture. Henry Jenkins defined transmedia storytelling as the ability of a narrative to expand across different media; here, however, the transition does not expand the plot, but suspends it, transforming fragments into autonomous and self-sufficient signs. As Umberto Eco noted, comics are a code of mass culture, capable of layering and establishing themselves as a shared language. This curation is the second installment in a trilogy dedicated to the languages of comics and pop culture, inaugurated with Manga – Global Myth and destined to be completed with Cyber.
