A curation by Natalie Slater, Curator at Singulart - Fintan Whelan’s "Perpetual Cycle" unfolds through forms that seem caught in the middle of becoming. Pigment pools, stretches, folds, and moves across the canvas, creating shapes that can feel bodily, geological, or entirely invented. Just as one begins to feel recognizable, it opens into something else.
Burnt sienna and raw umber move through the series alongside washes of turquoise, green, orange, and pale blue. Colors bleed into one another while darker lines gather around their edges, giving these fluid passages an unexpected sense of volume. At moments, the paintings seem less painted than formed, as if their shapes could be turned around and examined from another side.
