Geisha Butterfly - curated by Juliana Angulo

A curation by Juliana Angulo, Art Historian, Curator, and Advisor at FAREX & Singulart - This curation is inspired by Giacomo Puccini’s opera Madama Butterfly and its main character: a young geisha nicknamed Butterfly. Like the masterpiece, it takes place in a Japanese atmosphere and showcases abstract and figurative works that evoke cultural elements from Asia. Representations of geishas and Japanese women are delivered in a fresh and poetic style. Their mysterious and passionate gazes reveal emotions that take us back to the opera. Expressive pieces, accompanied by vibrant depictions of koi fish, butterflies, and cherry blossom trees, complement the collection with symbolism. Just as Puccini’s heroine falls passionately in love with a man who leaves her heartbroken, this collection embodies beauty and tenderness, but also the melancholy and fragility of her fate.
