Golden geometry - curated by Flavio Scaloni

A curation by Flavio Scaloni, Gallery Manager at Galerie Lo Scalo - Golden geometry represents the intersection of mathematical perfection and divine light, serving as a visual bridge between the rational and the transcendental. Symbolically, gold evokes eternity and the sun, while geometric abstraction suggests a universal order underlying the chaos of existence. Psychologically, these compositions offer a sense of stability and meditative focus through repetitive, harmonious motifs. Since 1950, this theme has been explored through Minimalism and Op Art. Frank Stella's "De la Nada" (1970) from his "Concentric Squares" series utilized metallic pigments to redefine spatial depth. The sculptor Louise Nevelson often transformed found objects into golden, geometric wall reliefs, such as "Royal Tide I" (1960). In photography, the world-famous Hiroshi Sugimoto captures the geometric purity of light and architecture; his "Architecture" series (1997) explores the essential forms that gold-toned light reveals. This selection celebrates how contemporary artists use gold to elevate geometry into a spiritual language.
