A curation by Natalie Slater, Curator at Singulart - Flight gives these works their structure. Birds cross, circle, rise, and follow one another, creating paths that extend beyond the individual figure. In Kay Sleking’s paintings, movement is carried through silhouette and repetition, with birds appearing at different points along the same passage. Maja Gajewska reduces the body even further, using fine strands of steel to draw its trajectory through space. Her birds seem to pull their own lines behind them, turning direction itself into part of the form. Across both approaches, the eye instinctively follows. One bird leads to the next, and the space between them becomes as important as the birds themselves.
