A curation by Natalie Slater, Curator at Singulart - A solo curation of works by Dutch painter Kay Sleking.
Working almost exclusively within a restrained palette of greys, whites, and soft blacks, Kay Sleking distills flight to its essential elements: movement, distance, rhythm, and air.
Across the works, birds appear in shifting formations, solitary passages, and fleeting encounters. Some glide effortlessly through open space while others gather in dense currents of motion. The compositions are spare, yet charged with a quiet sense of momentum.
Rather than focusing on the bird as subject, Sleking turns attention toward the space around it—the atmosphere it moves through, the tension between stillness and acceleration, and the fleeting geometry created by bodies in flight.
The result is a body of work that feels both expansive and intimate, where movement is continuous and the horizon remains just out of reach.
