Marilyn - curated by Flavio Scaloni

A curation by Flavio Scaloni, Gallery Manager at Galerie Lo Scalo - Marilyn Monroe is the ultimate archetype of the 20th-century icon, symbolizing the intersection of glamour, tragedy, and the mass-consumption of celebrity. For artists, she represents the tension between the public persona and private vulnerability, often carrying psychological connotations of the "blonde bombshell" mask that hides a complex inner life. Since 1950, her image has been the bedrock of Pop Art, most famously in Andy Warhol’s "Marilyn Diptych" (1962), which explored her immortality through mechanical repetition. Salvador Dalí also engaged with her myth in his surrealist "Marilyn Monroe" (1967). In contemporary practice, Douglas Gordon used her film stills to explore memory and time in "Self-Portrait of You + Me (Marilyn)" (2006). In photography, the world-famous Bert Stern captured her final days in the haunting "The Last Sitting" (1962), providing the raw, intimate counterpoint to her polished studio image. This collection celebrates her enduring power as a symbol of both the American Dream and its inherent fragility.
