Min Zou: Life - curated by Natalie Slater

A curation by Natalie Slater, Curator at Singulart - Min Zou’s paintings feel like glimpses into places we’re not entirely meant to understand. Figures appear alone within dim, loosely constructed spaces, their bodies sometimes clearly present and at other times reduced to little more than an outline. Light enters sparingly: a colored point, a distant glow, something hovering at the edge of the scene. There’s a strange stillness to these paintings. Zou leaves much of the space unresolved, allowing darkness, blurred forms, and fragments of architecture to carry as much weight as the figures themselves. The scenes can feel isolated, but never empty. Across this series, that uncertainty becomes part of the experience. The paintings don’t resolve the questions suggested by their titles. They leave us somewhere in the middle of them, with a figure, a space, and just enough light to keep looking.
