Mod Swim - curated by Natalie Slater

A curation by Natalie Slater, Curator at Singulart - A curated selection of works exploring the relationship between the figure, water, and color. Rather than treating swimming as a subject, the artists in this selection use it as a formal device. Bodies, pools, shorelines, and diving boards become structures within the composition, arranged through planes of saturated color, simplified forms, and carefully controlled space. Across painting and photography, figures appear suspended between movement and stillness. Some are immersed in water, others rest at its edge, while a few seem almost absorbed into the geometry surrounding them. What emerges is a visual language shaped as much by modernist design and illustration as by observation. Color is never decorative here—it organizes the image, directing the eye and defining the relationship between figure and environment. Viewed together, these works transform familiar scenes of swimming and leisure into something more graphic, distilled, and quietly cinematic.
