Photography

Art photography has exploded in popularity over the course of the 20th century, thanks to many technical innovations. The invention of the portable camera by Kodak at the end of the nineteenth century, that of the Leica at the beginning of the twentieth century and the advent of digital technology changed the practices of artistic photography. Big names in art photography have helped shape this new artistic discipline: Robert Doisneau is one of the most famous French photographers, because of his documentary photography work and his many black and white photographs of post-war Parisian streets.

Raymond Depardon, Walker Evans and Robert Mapplethorpe are other important names in contemporary photography. The work of these pioneers has greatly influenced the new generation of photographic artists who perpetuate the legacy of their predecessors while bringing a new and fresh dimension to art photography, made possible thanks to the revolution of digital photography.

A new milestone in the photography was shown to the world on the 10th of April by astronomers who were able to take a photograph of a black hole.

This demonstrated that photography as a medium had almost no limits, from portraits to documentary pictures to scientific photography; sometimes a photo says more than 1000 words.
