A curation by Natalie Slater, Curator at Singulart - There’s something really interesting about seeing a court from above. Once you remove the players and the movement, you start noticing the lines, blocks of color, symmetry, and all of these shapes that are normally just part of the game.
That’s what drew me to these works. Some still read immediately as basketball or tennis courts, while others move much closer to abstraction. The painted works push that even further, picking up on the same rectangles, borders, and divisions but allowing them to become much looser.
After a while, you almost forget what you’re looking at. The court becomes its own composition: color, line, shape, and space.
