Rainbow - curated by Flavio Scaloni

A curation by Flavio Scaloni, Gallery Manager at Galerie Lo Scalo - Rainbows have long been a source of fascination for artists, embodying a powerful blend of hope, harmony, and the transcendence of nature. This floating atmospheric phenomenon is a universal symbol of renewal and a bridge between two worlds—the earthly and the divine. The rainbow's spectrum of colors represents diversity and unity, making it a compelling metaphor for inclusion, as seen in its modern association with the LGBTQ+ community. Psychologically, seeing a rainbow can evoke a sense of childlike wonder and optimism, a promise of light after a storm. In contemporary art, rainbows have been reinterpreted beyond their traditional landscape context. The installation artist Olafur Eliasson creates immersive, artificial rainbows in works like 'Beauty' (1993), which uses mist and light to replicate the phenomenon indoors, inviting viewers to question perception itself. The contemporary painter Gerhard Richter uses the spectral palette of the rainbow in his abstract works, as seen in his 'Strip' series, to explore the interplay of color and light in a purely formal way. This collection celebrates the enduring power of the rainbow as a motif for both natural beauty and profound human emotion.
