A curation by Natalie Slater, Curator at Singulart - ‘Something’s Not Right’ brings together two photographers who begin with the familiar and introduce something that quietly throws it off. An airplane appears inside a dental X-ray. Vegetables take on the scale of landscapes. Ordinary objects are placed in situations that seem plausible for a moment, until they don’t. That slight delay is part of what makes these photographs work. We recognize what we’re looking at before noticing the detail that changes everything. Sometimes the interruption is absurd, sometimes almost believable, but there is always a small break in the logic of the image. Humor runs through the selection, along with a subtle sense of unease. Nothing is completely removed from reality. It has simply been rearranged enough to make the familiar feel strange.
