A curation by Natalie Slater, Curator at Singulart - In ‘Facets,’ Su Hyun Kim builds her paintings around light, reflection, and repetition. Flowers, glass, wheels, and jewel-like forms shift between the recognizable and the abstract, often becoming something entirely different the longer you look.
Color is immediate and unapologetic, but there is a real precision underneath it. Circular forms repeat throughout the series, creating a sense of movement as reflections multiply and familiar objects begin to fracture.
Kim describes the series simply: “I will shine in my life to reach the utopia.” That idea runs quietly through the work. Light becomes more than something she depicts—it is a way of transforming what we see.
