A curation by Flavio Scaloni, Gallery Manager at Galerie Lo Scalo - The taxi, particularly the iconic Yellow Cab, is a powerful artistic subject, representing the frenetic pace, anonymity, and diverse human tapestry of the modern metropolis. It functions as a mobile confessional and a symbol of both movement and isolation, capturing the transient nature of urban life. The cab's bright, geometric form has long inspired artists post-1950. Abstract Expressionist Al Held dedicated an entire series to the theme, including the monumental canvas Taxi Cab III (1959), using the vehicle's shape as a scaffold for dynamic, fragmented colour. Pop artists like Andy Warhol also touched on the iconography of the cab as an urban fixture. In cinema, its dark psychological role was cemented by the film Taxi Driver (1976). World-famous photographer Saul Leiter, a pioneer of color street photography, masterfully used the yellow flash of passing taxis, often blurred by rain or windows, in his evocative, painterly compositions, notably in his 1956 photograph, simply titled Taxi.
