The Watchers - curated by Natalie Slater

A curation by Natalie Slater, Curator at Singulart - ‘The Watchers’ gathers a selection of contemporary figurative painters whose works suspend the viewer within moments of uncertain observation. Each composition—whether depicting a crowd fixed on an unseen event, a meeting paused mid-gesture, or a line of figures waiting—carries a shared tension between presence and opacity. Rendered in restrained palettes of greys, blacks, and muted tones, these works evoke the stillness of postwar social tableaux, yet are charged with a distinctly modern unease. Their subjects look, wait, and bear witness, but to what remains obscured. The result is a collection that reflects on spectatorship itself—on how we look, what we see, and the invisible forces that hold our attention.
