Traveling clouds - curated by Raffaella Nobili

A curation by Raffaella Nobili, Owner and curator at Paraventi Giapponesi - Clouds are a favored subject, scattered throughout the history of art. Initially relegated to a mere background, over time they gain prominence until they become the primary and preferred subject. Symbolically, they express transience and changeability: sometimes they bring with them the threat of storm, other times they appear light and capable of conveying serenity. They are often associated with the emotional states of the scene in which they are placed, sometimes instead they are depicted in a completely realistic manner. Turner and Constable masterfully grappled with the theme, but contemporary painting also continues to choose it as a preferred subject, contemplative and ambivalent, conveying the density of condensation and, at the same time, the instability and continuity of impermanent nature. The selection of works presented here reflects this plurality: a reality in which man appears only as an observer of natural phenomena that resonate internally.
