Walking Shadows - curated by Natalie Slater

A curation by Natalie Slater, Art Agent at Snap Collective - 'Walking Shadows' is a curated collection of mixed-media artists, digital photographers, and painters who confront the shadow as both an image and a metaphor. In these works, the shadow is not merely an absence of light but a presence in itself—an extension of the human figure, a double, a fragment, a trace. Some artists render the shadow in stark minimalism, reducing the body to its most elemental silhouette. Others distort and abstract its form into gestures that feel childlike, playful, or even uncanny. There are works where the shadow mirrors faithfully, and others where it slips into ambiguity, taking on a life independent of the body it belongs to. Across these diverse approaches—literal, abstract, surreal, and expressive—the shadow emerges as a mutable language of identity, memory, and imagination. In uniting these distinct interpretations, the curation proposes the shadow not as emptiness, but as a figure in its own right: walking beside us, reflecting us, and sometimes eluding us altogether.
