What the Hands Know - curated by Natalie Slater

A curation by Natalie Slater, Art Agent at Snap Collective - In these works, the hands do the talking. They hold, offer, brace, touch, press down, hesitate. Sometimes they carry an object. Sometimes they carry the full weight of the image. A flower, a phone, a cigarette, a body, a small gesture that shifts the entire composition. Nothing here depends on the face. The hand becomes expression, but also structure. It directs where the eye lands and how the scene is read. A loose grip can feel tender. A bent wrist can close the image off completely. Even at rest, the hands keep speaking. What matters is not only what is being held, but the pressure behind it.
