A curation by Flavio Scaloni, Gallery Manager at Galerie Lo Scalo - I present a dynamic collection exploring the theme of Fashion. This subject is a perennial artistic muse because it represents a key nexus of identity, social commentary, commerce, and performance. Fashion functions as a profound cultural signifier, symbolizing status, rebellion, and the immediate spirit of the Zeitgeist (the spirit of the age). Psychologically, it relates directly to the construction of the self and the "social mask." Since 1950, the line between high art and high fashion has blurred. Pop artist Andy Warhol worked as a commercial fashion illustrator early in his career and famously produced art on the theme of mass-produced glamour, exemplified by his silkscreen Marilyn Diptych (1962). Fashion has also been presented as performance art, notably by designers like Alexander McQueen, whose runway shows became immersive conceptual experiences. For a world-famous photographer, Richard Avedon redefined fashion photography after 1950, introducing movement and narrative, with iconic images like Dovima with Elephants, Evening dress by Dior, Cirque d'Hiver, Paris (1955), transforming models into expressive characters. Our selected artists explore the power and artifice of clothing, from the runway to the street.
