About this artwork
In this piece, I combined expressive movement and control with the use of red, blue and yellow string, using acrylic and oil paint to form a figure walking across the canvas from the shadows into the light. Lines symbolizing the forces of positivity (red), negativity (blue) and yellow (expression) were applied later joining up droplets of the corresponding colours of paint left as the figure was being constructed. This painting reveals the internal… tension within the human figures journey between darkness and light. The string texture adds a unique touch, making the energy palpable. It’s a journey—complex yet hopeful—inviting your space to vibrate with the powerful contrast of struggle and awareness. This artwork breathes life and movement into any room it inhabits.
Adrian Flaherty, with a background spanning Post-Impressionism, architecture, and a Sculpture degree from Camberwell College of Art and Design, works across painting and conceptual art. He employs a style he calls "Reasoned Chance," blending the unpredictability of abstract expressionism and chance methods with purposeful mark-making, inspired by artists like Duchamp and Pollock. Through organic forms, dynamic textures, and a vivid use of primary colours, he explores human struggle, environment, and the tension between chaos and order, imbuing his art with a powerful sense of resilience and emotional intensity.
