In this piece, I poured my emotions into layers of deep blues, using acrylic and oil to capture a turbulent yet serene energy. The scribbly black line and vivid pink accents express an intense dialogue between chaos and calm. This work radiates a dynamic, soulful vibe, inviting your space to embrace both complexity and tranquility with every glance.
This work started out as a work on heavy Arches paper, which I then mounted on birchwood. I then… recycled the painting, adding collage, ink, sanding some part back again. As a result the work has an interesting textured surface and looks like it has lived a long, and not always easy life. This gives it an edgy urban, street art feel which contrasts well with the serenity and simplicity of the blues.
« My works are reduced inner landscapes that invite the viewer to interpret the mood or atmosphere, whether calm, meditative, melancholy, playful, or joyous. »
Alethea Eriksson is a South African–Swiss artist based in Baden, Switzerland. She creates nature-inspired abstract paintings that bring calm, spaciousness, and quiet presence into contemporary interiors. Through layered abstraction inspired by nature, light, weather, and inner landscapes, Eriksson creates paintings that invite stillness and reflection. She describes her works — inner landscapes or “soulscapes”—as a form of visual poetry, expressing the sense of renewal and wellbeing she experiences in nature. Inspired by masters such as Monet and Cézanne, alongside Abstract Expressionists like Joan Mitchell and Cy Twombly, Eriksson creates compositions that invite the viewer to feel moved, uplifted, and immersed in a contemplative emotional space. " Alethea Eriksson is a member of the Swiss Association of Women Artists. Her lyrical expressionist paintings have been presented in both solo and group exhibitions across Switzerland, as well as at art fairs in Britain and Germany.
