About this artwork
The orchid is an important theme in my work because this beautiful plant inspires me again and again with its special leaf shape and its distinctive, spectacularly colored flowers. Abstract color gradients in the background and freely placed representational sections alternate and create an exciting composition. The motif is captured vividly and spontaneously on high-quality, hand-stretched and primed canvases. Lines with oil pastels create graphic…
contrasts to the sometimes strong, freely colored sections, some of which are painted with a glaze and some with an opaque finish. Violet, magenta and neon yellow tones harmonize with green accents. I set highlights in neon colors to emphasize the fresh, lively character of the work of art. Despite the small format, the painting is very present and appears elegant, dynamic and positive. In combination with "Small Blue Orchid 1 and 3" it creates a beautiful ensemble in landscape format.

« Each of my pictures should appear as if a little bit of color had happened by chance, formed into a composition in a miraculous way, but could disappear again at any time. »
Alexandra Hiltl is a German painter and draftswoman whose works are widely exhibited worldwide. Her art moves between abstraction and figuration and is not specifically concerned with botanical or physiological accuracy, but rather with the "atmosphere of the moment". The beauty of living things touches her deeply, and Hiltl compositions reflect an emotional imagery. Working primarily in watercolor technique, her artistic practice requires extreme concentration as she allows the color to flow along with concentrated shaping.
