About this artwork
This 50cm square painting "Shore Leave" in shades of neutrals, aqua blue and pale greens on gallery wrap canvas, is part of a series of abstract artworks exploring themes of the UK coast. Having lived on the South Coast of England for 17 years, I had a huge memory bank of visual experience to draw on when creating this collection. The marks and textures are all inspired by debris washed up on the shore, pebbles, fishing nets, and the well-worn patina… of well-washed painted wood. Rivulets left in the sand, seaweed, and the swirling sea all feed into and influence the painting process.
Alison Gilbert, is a seasoned abstract artist with a background in textile design, predominantly using acrylics and a mix of different media. Her rich and vibrant style showcases a fusion of high contrast and subtle color shifts, with layers upon layers of paint intriguingly scraped back revealing a tale of their creation. Intuitively tying memories, emotions, and visual inspirations, her works echo with a delightful blend of joyfulness, peace, and a transformative aura that fills any room.
