About this artwork
The first time I tasted the wind in Turks and Caicos, it did not feel like air.
It felt like a promise.
The sea there was not just blue, it was a hundred whispered shades between turquoise and longing. Standing on Grace Bay Beach, I watched the tide move like breath against the reef, pulling in, pushing out, never apologizing for its hunger. That was when the painting began. Not on canvas, but in my heart, in my mind.
Back in my studio, the memory… clung to my skin like salt. I painted waves the way they ache.
This painting is not calm. It shimmers with wanting.
In the final layers, I added white, not soft foam, but sharp glints of light. The kind that flashes off the water in Turks and Caicos at noon, forcing me to squint, forcing me to feel. Those touches are the heartbeat of this painting.
