About this artwork
The work examines predators. The eagle will attack the snake, but I have seen snakes winning out. The eagle represents freedom, leadership, and vision. The snake carries healing energy and transformation. They are both powerful predators. I enjoyed contrasting the bird's movement with the still stealth of the snake. In creating this artwork, I plunged into the realm of freedom and resilience, symbolized by the bold, sweeping strokes shaping the eagle.… Its dynamic posture against the serene, textured background conjures a narrative of triumph and spirit. Introducing a playful contrast is a delicate, scribbled snake, a metaphor for challenges overcome. This piece is meant to inspire strength and determination, adding a vibrant, energizing aura to any space.
« Our lives are the canvas and, as such, we are both the creator and the creation. »
Ann Gadd, an award-winning South African painter, has exhibited nationally and in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Italy. In her works, she employs lightness and humor to reflect the profound, often using African symbolism to celebrate her heritage and illustrate her country's paradoxes. Usually painting in series, Gadd’s unique blend of naive and pop is translated through acrylics on canvas. Her ADD means she switches from series according to mood. Recently longlisted for the Visual Art Open 2024 UK, International Emerging Artist Awards. Finalist in the Singulart International Women's Day 2025 Award "Being a finalist is a remarkable achievement—one that reflects the strength and originality of your work."
