About this artwork
In this work, I explore femininity in a suspended moment—between withdrawal, gentleness, and silent strength. With her face tilted, her arms crossed, the figure stands there, present but withdrawn, as if in an inner confidence.
The blue of the background acts as a setting. It contains and illuminates the body, while creating a subdued, almost meditative atmosphere. The white of the hair, treated with graphic bands, becomes a sign of style, recurring… in my series of stylized portraits. It structures the whole and introduces a soothing verticality.
The subtle yet assertive collage touches anchor the image in a contemporary materiality. They evoke the wall, the fabric, the outside world that the figure seems to have distanced itself from.
The red lips, the only bright spots in the painting, give a sudden vibration to this pale, almost spectral face: a contained emotion, a silent word.
BA-G. has over 30 years of experience in art, shaping her work at the intersection of the sensitive and the symbolic thanks to her training in adult classes at the Beaux-Arts de Paris. With a wide range of mixed media, she combines aesthetics of expressive purity, affective narrative, and rigorous geometric structure to create a rich visual universe embracing the rooftops of Paris, maternal and child figures, and poetic everyday scenes. Each work vibrates with the right emotions—vulnerability and strength, affective imagination and the desire to belong—making her painting memorable and touching and subtly questioning our need for belonging, tenderness, and continuity in a fragmented world. Presented in France, Europe, and Japan, her works are featured in private collections in the United States, Canada, Japan, Europe, Cambodia, and the United Kingdom.
