About this artwork
When I painted this picture, I not only had the conductor in my mind, but also within me. He stands there – arms raised, fully present in the moment, yet completely in control. For me, he is more than just someone who conducts music. He is a guide, a symbol of how I myself try to order all the voices, thoughts, and emotions within me – not to suppress them, but to bring them into harmony.
I used acrylics, collage elements, and charcoal to make… this tension between chaos and harmony visible. The black shadow form appears as a silhouette, but life pulsates within it—shards of instruments, fragments of musical notes, color, movement. The reds and whites remind me of passion and stillness, of the constant shifts between emotion and control.
Sometimes I see myself in this conductor – trying to lead my own orchestra of ideas, memories, and dreams.
Christine Schuldhaus, a talented painter and illustrator, primarily uses pastel, acrylic and watercolor painting. Her unique artistic approach allows her to combine painting with drawing and to constantly improve her technique. In doing so, she manages an astonishing balancing act between the clarity of reality and the playfulness of the abstract. Her works convey emotions, messages and hidden thoughts - so rich that they can often contain more content than an entire book.
