About this artwork
Ding-a-ling is the first freestanding assemblage sculpture I ever
made. It consists of a bowl; a candlestick; a banana hanger; a gold colored
metal bracelet; a wooden duck; two and a half wooden
curtain rod rings; a hand-carved wooden cone I purchased in an
antique shop in Front Royal, Virginia; two finials; a carved hand I
have seen called the hand of Buddha; a flower- like metal chandelier
part called a bobeche, and a segment from a vegetable steamer.…
On impulse, while assembling this sculpture, I turned the duck
upside down.
In 2025, in the Made by Hand juried show held at the Marin Society
of Artists gallery in San Rafael, California, out of 52 artworks, this
piece won first prize.
