About this artwork
In this piece, I embraced simplicity and movement, minimalism, quiet spaces. My intention with this series of abstract paintings is to create a visceral reaction, an emotional connection for my viewer. The images have nothing to do with logic, although perhaps something to do with aspects of memory and emotion. The series HOLDING A MEMORY relates to the influence which memory currently has in my own particular painting process.
In my view, or… in my experience, my own memory has an enormous influence in my artmaking. I find myself often involved with moments from my past. coming up while working on specific paintings. These moments shape the composition and feel of the artwork to a huge degree.
My heart, my emotion, the felt sense in my body; all define together what evolves and has a presence in this for me important series.
« I'm striving to capture impact and subtlety in my abstract paintings. They are light and dreamlike, yet grounded.
My approach is minimalistic, I seek a dynamic tension between raw and refined. »
David Drain is a Scottish artist, living in the South of Germany close to the Swiss border and the beautiful art city Basel. He exhibits regularly in galleries and art fairs across Europe and Switzerland. Creating abstract artworks has become a natural language for David, a means of expression, a way of revealing fine layers of meaning, of mystery held within form and texture, line and hue.
