About this artwork
In my studio, paintings reveal themselves. And here we have an example of chaos combined with holding an energy, a dynamic tension. In my view, imperfection is absolutely essential, in art and elsewhere.
Perfection is indeed not at all what I strive to create in my abstract works. My clear intention is to create compelling images which hold a certain dynamic tension. I enjoy creating a dynamic and simultaneously subtle balance between raw and refined.… As in my artwork overall, these paintings are dreamlike, light, yet grounded.
This ongoing series of paintings reflect my growing understanding of IMPERFECT AS ESSENTIAL as being critically important in many ways.
« I'm striving to capture impact and subtlety in my abstract paintings. They are light and dreamlike, yet grounded.
My approach is minimalistic, I seek a dynamic tension between raw and refined. »
David Drain is a Scottish artist, living in the South of Germany close to the Swiss border and the beautiful art city Basel. He exhibits regularly in galleries and art fairs across Europe and Switzerland. Creating abstract artworks has become a natural language for David, a means of expression, a way of revealing fine layers of meaning, of mystery held within form and texture, line and hue.
