The photograph "Will-o'-the-Wisps" depicts a harbor or canal promenade in Szczecin at night. "Will-o'-the-Wisps" explores the seductive power of light—and its unreliability. What is meant to guide us is simultaneously what deceives: the bright reflections in the water act as guiding lines, a promise of direction. Yet they are broken, trembling, distorted. The construction site on the opposite bank serves as a cipher for a society in perpetual construction:… cranes are the arms of a maxim that reaches upwards—higher, further, limitless. Progress here is not idyllic, but technical, cold, efficient—in shades of blue reminiscent of neon, screen light, and shift work. In contrast, the yellow bollard in the foreground represents a counterpoint. It is not movement, but a boundary. In this interpretation, the image asks: if everything strives for expansion, what do we anchor ourselves to? And what happens when the lights we follow are merely reflections?

David Söllner, a trained primary school teacher, expresses himself through painting and photography. By dealing with colours, materials and motifs, he creates a symbiosis between everyday experiences and the search for the extraordinary. His works are a kaleidoscope of positive colour compositions, darker moods or a dynamic mixture of both elements that reflect his mental journey and the crossing of his own boundaries. This creates an authentic world of feelings that vividly captures the fusion of imagination and reality.
