With a historical reference to Roman Emperor Nero, I poured raw emotion into this painting, blending fiery yellows and oranges with deep shadows to evoke a city ablaze. The work is a comment on the rise of dictators, one in particular, who would burn their empires to the ground in order to rule over the ashes.
