About this artwork
The nominal origin of Toyism lies in the year 1990, marked by the creation of my graphic work "Escape of the Computer Spiders." This piece functioned as a proto-manifesto: a powerful interplay of lines giving rise to planes that, in their seeming autonomy, paradoxically formed a new, coherent whole. The playful yet deliberate synthesis of figurative and abstract forms, the symbolic transformation of technology (the computer) into a mythical creature… (the spider), and the interactive quest it evoked in the viewer sowed the seed for a unique aesthetic universe.
This foundational work has been part of my private collection since the inception of Toyism and has hung in my study as a constant reminder of the movement's origins. Now, for the first time, it is being made available exclusively to the right buyer, offering a unique opportunity to acquire the piece that marks the very beginning of Toyism (No discount will be granted on this artwork).
Toyist Dejo is the visionary artist and founder of the influential, international art movement Toyism. As a versatile artist, active as both a painter and printmaker, he forges a remarkable synthesis in his work and life path between rigorous academic training, a profound fascination with world cultures, and sharp business acumen. This unique combination of qualities enabled him to bring Toyism to life: a vibrant, collaborative movement that breaks through the boundaries of individual authorship. Toyist's oeuvre is distinguished by exceptional craftsmanship, an explosive yet deliberate color palette, and a wealth of narrative symbolism. His visual language, seemingly playful and accessible, serves as a conduit for complex themes: the search for identity in a globalized world, the universal human condition, and the tension between childlike wonder and adult awareness. Aesthetic pleasure is never superficial; it is the carrier of meaning.
