About this artwork
This painting is based on my recollections of northern Norway, my homeland and specifically the islands off the coast above the arctic circle. The landscape is dramatic and the lonely fishing cabins offer shelter when in need. Mountains, sea and sky are the dominant features and are most beautiful.
A serene landscape unfolds, dominated by the tranquil hues of azure waters and lush verdant hills. A solitary house with a bright roof stands out against… this peaceful backdrop, hinting at solitude yet connection to nature. The scene subtly recalls elements of Impressionism, exploring light and color while introducing a modern twist. An unexpected streak of fiery red escapes up the hillside, contrasting with the calm and igniting curiosity. This element prompts thoughts on nature's duality—both serene and untamed. What narratives emerge from the fiery intrusion into this tranquil scene, and how do they alter our perception of solitude and presence?
Raised with a sketchbook, Evy Olsen Halvorsen expresses herself through paint, both oil and encaustic. She begins with impromptu, abstract patterns and colors, gently coaxing them into subjects marked by time. Rewinding memories like worn film reels, her works vividly reincarnate people from the past, eliciting a sense of nostalgic longing.
