About this artwork
This June, the renowned sculptor Itai Nyama from Zimbabwe will be a guest in my studio for the series "PAINTER VERSUS SCULPTOR." Itai has participated in numerous international art exhibitions and his work is represented in museums. Tapfuma Gutsa, one of Africa's most important artists, described Itai as follows: "Itai Nyama approaches the hard stone like a Zen master, freeing it from mass and gravity, transforming it into a state of gossamer lightness…
and airiness with wonderful elegance."
The contrast between the delicate sculptures and the thundering Victoria Falls on the Zambezi opened up a space for me in which contradiction and freedom became the driving force behind my work for my water paintings.
