About this artwork
In this work, I depict an authentic fragment of Palermo, an intense and contradictory city where time leaves visible traces on the walls, in worn posters, and in urban signs. I'm fascinated by the city's ability to transform decay into a visual identity, creating a spontaneous and profoundly human narrative.
I worked primarily on the contrast between black and white and fluorescent pink, purple, and orange accents, to inject contemporary energy… and vitality into the composition. The illustrated figure emerges as a fragile and ironic presence, a symbol of the contemporary individual immersed in urban chaos.
Through textures, graffiti, and visual layering, I sought to transform an everyday glimpse into a poetic reflection on memory, metropolitan identity, and the city's imperfect beauty.
Giada Iafisco uses acrylic paint, watercolors, markers, fabrics, photography, ink, and comics, drawing on an education at Rome's Art School and a cosmopolitan career in visual merchandising. She constantly experiments with diverse materials, creating works that blend fragments with a material and visual style, often textile and narrative. Her works narrate metamorphoses, freezing moments of life with irony and depth, conveying emotions suspended between smiles and tears, in a constant balance between lightheartedness and drama.
