About this artwork
"I was previously a box for a shelving unit", this piece of cardboard would say if it only could talk. I started rescuing cardboard that was leaned against underground trash containers in my street. You can see in the pictures how this box looked like when she found me.
In this work, I blend acrylic, watercolor, and ink to craft a vivid, immersive landscape that teeters on the edge of abstraction and vintage charm. The central, winding path that… cuts through the field evokes a journey, mysterious and inviting, while the expressive brushwork and fiery hues embody a wild, untamed energy. It's a visual narrative encouraging exploration, movement, and the discovery of hidden warmth and life in the forgotten nooks of nature. This painting promises to bring a dynamic, uplifting spirit to any space, fostering an environment of adventure and whimsy.
Coming from a background of philosophy and cognitive science, Irene makes use of materials provided by the logistic world she works in, using found cardboard as her canvas. She employs watercolor inks and acrylics to paint serene landscapes, letting the surface's incidental cracks, rips, or prints guide her compositions. Her work, often influenced by natural environments and non-human beings, conveys themes of hope and resilience in uncertain times.
