About this artwork
The artist was born during the era when China's one-child policy was in effect, a time when many women were required to have an intrauterine device (IUD) inserted after giving birth to their first child. During the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the artist created this work, using absurd imagery to respond to serious realities—or serious imagery to respond to absurd realities.
