About this artwork
"Rust"
Mixed media on canvas, framed in black oak American-Box frame.
"Rust" embodies refined minimalism with a tactile, architectural presence. The artwork is created using mixed media on canvas stretched over a 2 cm wooden frame and is elegantly set within a black oak American-Box frame (4 cm deep), which enhances its visual impact and gives it a strong, contemporary finish.
The surface recalls the organic, weathered structures of rust, layered,… fissured and time-worn - yet simultaneously exudes a quiet sophistication. Metallic pigments have been delicately applied to the textured base, catching and reflecting light differently depending on the viewing angle and illumination. Golden hues shimmer subtly across the surface, adding depth and a sense of alchemy to the otherwise austere composition.
Beyond its visual appeal, "Rust" is a conceptual work rooted in travel and memory. Joanna Pyrskala drew inspiration from her journey to Sintra, Portugal.

JOANNA PYRSKALA is a conceptual and visual artist with a background in Fine Arts and Landscape Architecture. Her practice explores abstraction and minimalism through refined compositions and subtle emotional depth. She creates paintings and epoxy resin objects that balance concept with aesthetics, including custom designs for contemporary interiors. Her works are part of private collections around the world, including the USA. Pyrskala has exhibited internationally, with shows in Spain and the Netherlands and was awarded Top Selection 2025 at the Berlin Art Fair by BBA Gallery in collaboration with PitturiAmo.
