About this artwork
His travels in Canada took him by train from Montreal to Quebec during the course of which the Victoria bridge was crossed which spans the St Lawrence river for a considerable distance and has views over the city and of the Concorde bridge. The structure of the bridge as the train passes along the tracks forms a repetitive pattern of both sound and vision. This inspired him to document the crossing by taking a picture at regular intervals throughout…
the crossing thereby adding a visual dimension to the time of that event.
The resultant montage creates an interesting pattern within itself and affords the observer a tangible feeling of the length of time of the crossing and the differing view of the foreground and distant city as the perspetctive shifts.

John Brooks is a British visual artist who is currently living and working in Bristol, UK. Through his photography, Brooks wishes to project a visual and emotional response that extends far beyond the pictorial. His photographs, both analogue and digital, often employ a layering affect where a subject becomes doubled or tripled, thereby creating an illusion of volume, depth and spatiality. His photographs can reflect the imposing nature of urbanism and play with perspective to create an illusory world.
