About this artwork
The sculpture is actually a self portrait of the artist (sans hair) and was the first sculpture made utilizing finer strips of Soda cans. This makes the weave much denser and allows for more definition and texture to be achieved. Designed in the style of an old fashioned bust, it's aim is to showcase the hidden beauty of the humble soda can. These cans were carefully designed mini artworks that were created to catch the eye of consumers while advertising…
a memorable brand or message. Once the contents were finished the can was disposed of without a second glance. To use them to build a human form is not only an artistic challenge of reinterpretation, but is part of an ongoing exploration by the artist about the potential future that may occur as nature evolves to utilize the garbage we carelessly discard.
