About this artwork
"CORONA" is a sculptural work that was inspired by the current drama that has hit our planet: the Covid-19 pandemic, the so-called new Coronavirus disease.
Coronaviruses take their name from their particular shape which resembles a CROWN when observing the virus under a microscope.
The work represents the head of a woman with Asian facial features that bring back memories of China, the place where the infection started.
The surface of the woman's… head is decorated with the virone and the "spikes", revealing the morphology of the Coronavirus and giving the woman the idea of wearing a CROWN.
The head, however, is only partially covered by the viral infectious particle, because it has been destroyed.
The woman's happy expression represents healing, victory over the virus.
She, a Divinity, a Queen with her CROWN, a Superior Entity who seems to want to say: "Have faith, everything will work out".
