One aspect that distinguishes the famous painter Vermeer: His paintings usually have a focal point where the painting is sharp, the point of interest!
This cannot be solved photographically, as the camera only ever focuses on certain areas. Nevertheless, I was keen to achieve this pull towards a certain point. In this work, I digitally reworked one of my photographs and created an increasingly strong pixelation in the outer areas. I then had this… file printed on canvas and used oil paint to precisely paint this focus point out of the blurred image.
An unusual picture in which the main motif, the car, virtually jumps out of the picture plane.
The whole thing is stretched on a stretcher frame and ready to hang.
Manfred Hönig, trained in physics and philosophy, creates impressive realistic works using acrylic, oil and watercolor techniques. He uses brushes and airbrushes to create spatial illusions that suggest authenticity and immerse the viewer in the subject, free of unnecessary embellishments. His art conveys a deep understanding of the transience of life, embedded in the dignity and aesthetics of the decay and beauty of nature.
