Being explores the ever-shifting landscape of human emotion the moments of exhilaration, the stretches of desolation, and everything in between. Handcrafted from plaster of Paris, three geometric cones of varying sizes embody these states, their forms a meditation on presence, fragility, and the fleeting intensity of thought and feeling.
Some cones are layered with 24ct gold leaf, glowing against the blackened surface, suggesting moments of clarity,… transcendence, or heightened awareness. The work asks us to consider how we inhabit our own states of mind how we navigate joy, despair, and the spaces that exist between.
Being invites the viewer to dwell in these transitions, to sense the tension between shadow and light, and to recognise the quiet power and beauty that emerge when impermanence, intensity, and reflection meet.
« It’s my way of expressing and re-creating captured memories, ideas and immortal aesthetics through art. »
Manuel Ursprung is a German-born, British-based artist whose sculptural reliefs trace an arc from delicate plaster imprints to more tactile, transformative works in latex. Drawing on travel and memory, his pieces explore the tension between containment and emergence, reimagining the relationship between surface, form and becoming.
