About this artwork

Red timbers as part of a series of work inspired by a trip to Varanasi, the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world. A spiritual destination for many Hindus who wish to escape the eternal cycle of rebirth ( Samsara ) and attain spiritual liberation ( Moksha ).
The physical structure of the timbers used in the burning pyres leant a strong abstract motif to the composition of many of the paintings.
The thoughts and ideas based around Samsara… and moksha likewise gave shape to the finish, colour and design, stained with the memories and experience of colour and place.
The visual language is bold and simple, using various large tools with generous, direct application of paint. A simpler arrangement and form of expression.
A balance between Action and stillness, light and dark, the seeking of infinite variety in repetition, through accident and chance.
