About this artwork
This is a "study" for my metaphysical landscape series, focusing on gesture, technique, and layers of color to represent the texture of the bark of my beloved beech trees. The successive pastel layers are achieved with a powerful gesture and ancient pastel application methods. In my opinion, the painting creates a strong identity and presence for the tree, seen in close-up against a background of autumnal colors.
