About this artwork
A young woman stands barefoot in a tranquil, open interior at dawn or dusk, arms lifted in a gesture that reads as both a stretch and a silent invocation. She faces the horizon, but her body language suggests an internal rather than external focus - waiting, longing or perhaps preparing for change.
The room is modern, elegant, and minimal, with a horizon-wide view that blurs the boundary between interior and exterior. The world outside feels distant… and blurred, while inside remains pristine yet curiously uninhabited - except for her.
At her feet is a giant monarch caterpillar. Symbolically the caterpillar is the prelude to transformation, to flight, to wings. The title “Waiting for Wings” echoes the girl’s pose - paused, suspended in time. She has not yet turned into a butterfly. She is on the cusp of something, but not quite there.
The girl and the caterpillar depict the in-between phase of innocence and awareness, motion and stillness, containment and freedom.
Wojnowski, a Chelsea College of Art and Design alumnus, exercises his superb skills in acrylic paintings and interior design. Mesmerizing spectators through fine detail blended with expressive brushwork, he delineates a whimsical, dreamlike world where precision coexists with artistic freedom. He compels, through vibrant nuances of colour, a dive into an enchanting universe of nostalgia, playfulness and surrealism, ultimately sparking profound joy, reflection and momentary escape from reality.
