About this artwork
This large oil painting is set against a backdrop that regularly inspires me: the beach and cliff of my village. The group of people I imagined is anything but realistic… well, that's for each viewer to decide. It's an amusing caricature of a hierarchical social organization, born from the primordial seawater and reaching towards the elusive sky. Will this system have the solidity of the rock that stands behind them? One might doubt it, and that's…
why I titled it Tower of Babel, a biblical reference to humanity's boundless ambition.
Furthermore, it can be observed that several characters behave in ways that considerably inconvenience their neighbors, preventing them from seeing, hearing, speaking, or even smelling pleasant aromas. It is also worth noting that a woman supports this entire, very masculine tower.
