About this artwork
This painting holds a special place in my practice — it is my first truly alive abstract work. It was created as an intimate conversation with myself during a difficult emotional period.
I approached the canvas without a plan, laying out all the materials I had and allowing each layer to emerge directly from what I felt inside. Confused and heavy thoughts were drawn out with black charcoal until inner tension softened. A sense of emptiness followed,… expressed through pale blue acrylic, partially merging with the charcoal and turning into muted greys. Relief and lightness appeared as soft pink tones. Pain and intensity found their way into bold red oil pastel lines, while depth was added through dark blue.
Through this process of transferring emotions onto the canvas, I gradually arrived at a state of calm, balance and inner harmony. Today, the painting no longer speaks about a difficult time, but about the human ability to stabilize, self-regulate, and find support within.
Nata Chebarkova (b. 1991) is a Cyprus-based abstract artist exploring inner freedom, spirituality, and emotional transformation. Born in Russia, she studied industrial design and academic art at Ulyanovsk State University before turning to intuitive, body-driven expression.
For Chebarkova, abstraction is a way to transcend inner and outer boundaries. Her paintings, performances, and installations investigate identity, presence, and the divine, combining physical gesture with contemplative depth. She views the creative process as a bridge between the human and the spiritual.
She is a member of the Association of Mediterranean Artists (AMA Cyprus) and founder of ARRT, a creative community. Her work has been exhibited in Cyprus and Russia, and in 2023 she received the Talent Prize in the Abstraction category from Art Show International Gallery (Los Angeles).
“My art,” Chebarkova writes, “invites viewers to pause, feel, and reconnect with the divine light within.”
